One of the best things about winter is you can finally pull out all your favourite cosy sweaters. Update your wardrobe this season with some new knitted pieces, create your ideal sweater and skirt combinations! This season it’s all abut the turtleneck and oversized sweaters, which are easy to pair with everything from jeans to skirts and knee-high boots. There are many different ways to style your look, pair your sweater with a mini skirt for an easy way to dress it up, or dress it down by wearing your oversized sweater with a skater skirt. Read on for some tips and tricks so you can look great this winter.
A great way to make your oversized sweater look fashionable is by pairing it with a pencil skirt. Tuck in the sweater to show off the skirt. Fall 16/17 saw feminine colours like bubble-gum pink and purples paraded down the runways of Gucci, Chanel and Jill Sander. Pair your pink pencil skirt with a pastel coloured sweater for a fun girly look. Alternatively, pair your skirt with a dark sweater to add some edge to your outfit. Tucking in your sweater at the front stops you from looking overwhelmed by fabric. This style of sweater can be very versatile and easily transformed from slouchy-chic to work-ready with a few simple accessories and the right footwear.
- Tuck your sweater into a flared skirt for a feminine yet fun look
- Stay warm by layering your oversized sweater with a long-line coat, leather mini or pants and ankle boots
- Wear your sweater in the evening with metallic stilettos and statement bag
- Style your sweater for the office by wearing it with cigarette pants and nude pumps
Turtleneck Sweaters and Skater Skirts
Turtlenecks are effortlessly chic and classic, team yours with a skater skirt for the perfect day-to-night look. Skater skirts are a great way to add some shape to your outfit, tuck in your turtleneck to streamline the silhouette or wear your sweater over your skirt like Aimee Song for a casual preppy outfit. This season change things up and opt for a velvet sweater to add some texture or an embroidered one to add some detail.
Edgy androgynous brands like Rag And Bone and Yeezy showcased chunky military knitwear this season. Layer your khaki sweater with a long-line skirt for an unusual feminine twist and wear heeled ankle boots to top off this cool look. A military knit also coordinates perfectly with this season’s must-have coat- the shearling.
The Knitted Dress
If you want a comfortable but feminine look then the knitted dress may be ideal for you. It’s a convenient piece to own for those days when you just want to throw something on and walk out the door. The knit dress goes well with long boots for a sultry look or dress it down with flat boots, tights and a chunky scarf like Annie Bing. The knit dress comes in many different styles from bright colours, interesting textures to fluffy and cosy like Nada Adelle’s version.
- Coordinate your dress with a leather jacket and heeled ankle boots for meeting friends
- Layer a skirt under your knit dress for an eclectic look; finish it off with long boots
- Wear your turtleneck dress with a sharp blazer and pumps for a smart outfit
- Pair your cable knit dress with skinny jeans, leather boots and a velvet bag for cool casual look
Knitwear And Knee-length Boots
This season knee-length boots are still everywhere and for good reason. They add a touch of glamour to any outfit, especially when teamed with knitwear. Team your chunky sweater with a mini skirt and if your look is neutral then opt for bright boots like the red suede ones sold by Stuart Weitzman. One of the best things about these boots is that they make a great alternative to wearing tights or long socks and can be dressed down with a casual outfit or dressed up for the evening. Below are some more ways to rock your boots this winter.
- Coordinate beige knee-highs with a beige slouchy sweater and black mini for a casual day look
- Dress up your boots with a leather mini and figure-hugging V-neck sweater.
- Wear your black boots to work with a white jumper and grey skirt
- Team your knee-highs with ripped jeans for an edgy appeal and tuck in a textured sweater for the perfect weekend outfit
